All Photography Types Aren’t the Same, Learn What Goes into Branding & See if it’s for you

I started photography several years back working on portraits and landscapes. Back then, I lived in Europe so landscapes worth photographing were easier to come by.

Once I came back to the States, I really dove into portraits. That is where I stayed until 2025 when I absolutely fell in love with all things branding – I knew this was work I was meant for.

Since my switch, I had a lot of people asking me how it’s different. Why can’t anyone just be known for both? Here’s the thing…they can, but you need to know how to be a branding photographer too.

These photos are more for your clients social media than frames in their house. Your client is the boss!! I cringe when someone asks me to show them my style of photography when talking about branding. It’s not about my style because each brand is different. I do have a style, but it’s not about what I want it’s about the client’s needs and vision for the session.

I take a lot of time before the client’s session to get to know my client, their business, and their goals for the session. I also like to work with my clients to get a clear plan before offering a price to my clients. I don’t offer typical standing packages like you get as part of your wedding, because everyone has different needs. The Unpolished Edit payments are based on the amount of time in the session, as well as how much planning goes into the session. So, you truly get what you pay for. My “bread and butter” if you will are the clients who in the first zoom call say I don’t know about my branding, I don’t know what I’m looking for, and I help them so that way by their session, everything is clear and they are ready to have photos to match their vision they spent time orchestrating.

If you cannot allow your client to be the boss of the session, then you should stay in your line of photography, branding is not for you. If you think you can handle it and plan a session with as much care and attention as you would want, then try it! It’s such a great time!
